Shaolin Gongfu (Kung Fu) has seen an ever increasing popularity across the world in recent years. The impressive stage show tours ("Shaolin Wheel of Life" and "Kung Fu Masters") have brought fascination to the world as sell out audiences watched monks breaking bricks and metal bars on their bare skin. But this is no theatrical trick - it is the ancient art of qigong that can be studied and learnt right here at Shaolin Gongfu City. We aim to teach the full and genuine range of Shaolin Kung Fu. We teach authentic, real Shaolin Kung Fu that has filtered down through each generation since the origin of Kung Fu 1,500 years ago. At Shaolin Gongfu City you will learn traditional Shaolin Kung Fu as it was originally taught - for its true martial purpose and application. Shaolin Gongfu City is the only place to learn the whole range of authentic Shaolin martial arts in London!

News article on our fundraising effort for the Gallery Development Project

In our typical multi-tasking style, we had 'piggybacked'on our grading event on 19 November and have raised £158 for the William Morris Gallery Development Project, a local art cause very close to our heart. Here is a News article on the Gallery website on our great work. We hope this will help inspire other groups to come forward doing the same - together we can make a huge difference!

We would like to wish all our students and parents a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New year.

Our last training date for 2011 will be Monday 19 December. We will re-open on Saturday 7 January 2012.

We will be launching a new Chinese class in early February. This language class will greatly compliment our learning of Tai Chi, Kungfu and Chinese culture. Final details will follow up soon.

Young people with learning disabilities enjoyed Kungfu on 30 November

We pulled togehter a Tai Chi/Kungfu taster session on 30 November for the children with learning disabilities, parents/carers and staff at the Limes Children Centre, Somers Road, E17. They really enjoyed the session:

"I liked all of it." - Michael M

"It was great fun and we all liked watching the demonstration." - Aaquib

On the other hand our young people who helped out enjoyed the workshop as well and learned a lot from them:

"It was a real experience to work with them. I met a few of them with amazing talent. One guy I met could draw to a very high standard and was hoping to have an art career. It was good teaching them Kungfu - they were talkative, chatty and just like us they had their favourite films, places and worries. They pikced up Kungfu very quickly and enjoyed the kicks most! It would be a pleasure to work with them again." - FiFi

So we will reach out and do even more community work for different groups in our local area in the Olympics year of 2012!

A big thank you for an amazing grading event on 19 November

A very well done to all the grading students and a big thank you to everyone involved in assembling such an inspirational grading event on 19 November. I hope you have all enjoyed the day and taken away some solid goals for an upbeat come back at the next year's grading event on 17 November 2012. A parent/Tai Chi grading student's text message after the event has captured the spirit of the day:

"...The grading and performance were wonderful... Emily and I have made it our challenge to do Kungfu yellow as a father and daughter pair next year!" - Colin and Emily

FREE Tai Chi for Women: in local women's words

FREE Tai Chi for Women funded by LBWF, drew a close on 28 May. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Here is a flavour of what participants said.

"All the instructors are very good and we learn while we have fun! I love the outdoor atmosphere."

"A very structured programme, that is informative in many ways. It explains the well being and health aspects of Tai Chi as well as the self-defence elements. It is an excellent form of exercise and each movement is explained extremely well."

"It has improved my posture which is particularly good for me as I have a replacement disc in my back and the osteopath I have seen has commented on this!"

"The outdoor atmosphere was the best part. I really enjoyed doing the performance."

Special thanks to the three female coaches (Aileen, Nkesh and Shabana) and volunteer Jennifer who have worked hard and made the project such a huge success.

Karate Kid: a splendid completion on 10 April

Becoming a Karate Kid, an innovative project funded by PSL, ended on a high note of a grand performance on 10 April at YMCA. What would be better to evaluate the project than participants own words?

"Class discipline excellent. Clear instruction. Great example set by instructor. Good fun. Excercise techniques and positions checked. Well done!"

"This has been a great 10 free weeks! The structure has been clear and Michael has thoroughly enjoyed being taught by a teacher with expert skills. I have enjoyed watching and learning. Michael has practised in the garden with enthusiasm."

"Excellent classes. The teacher was so good and really commanded respect from the children who also really liked him..."

We hope a lot of children will continue training and make a steady progress to become a Shaolin Warrior in the near future!
